Day 1. Arrival and settling into the rhythm

  • Arrival on the Holy Mountain (Pantokrator monastery) around midday
  • Checking in, lunch
  • Rest. It matters to recover and prepare for the rhythm of the monastery

On the first day we hurry nowhere. A person needs to rest and prepare for the rhythm of the monastery.

Day 2. Living a day the way the monastery lives

  • The full morning cycle of services (5–6 hours)
  • Rest after the morning services
  • Obedience at the monastery
  • A walk out: the skete of the Prophet Elijah or Stavronikita monastery

  • 16:00Ninth hour and vespers

We do not rush on. We stay at the monastery to sense its real life.

Day 3. Seeing more without losing the main thing

  • The full morning cycle of services
  • A private car at our disposal (4–5 hours)
  • Karyes — the wonderworking icon “It Is Truly Meet”
  • Vatopedi, Xenophontos, Docheiariou
  • The kellion of Saint Paisios
  • Other monasteries and shrines as the route allows
  • Return to Pantokrator
  • 04:00Services begin (midnight office)
  • 07:30Liturgy
  • 09:00Meal (morning)
  • 16:00Vespers
  • 17:00Meal (evening)
  • 17:30Compline
  • 19:00Talks with the monks

After a day of discovery we come home again, into the blessed rhythm of Pantokrator.

Day 4. Farewell to Athos

  • A quiet end to the stay at the monastery
  • Departure by private taxi past Vatopedi monastery
  • A private boat, Ierissos — Ouranoupoli
  • And then the road home — with prayer, gratitude, and the blessing of the Holy Mountain

We leave Athos, but Athos stays in the heart for good.
